Bio

Professor Gerald Ivory, affectionately known across scientific circles as “Big Arm”, is a world-renowned inventor, researcher, and owner of an arm so disproportionately massive it’s required a weapon lisence to wield in 20 states. He is also, by some miracle or poor decision-making depending who you ask, the acting Chancellor of E.R.A.

Big Arm’s career began, as many scientific careers do, with a life-threatening medical condition: his own body killing itself with radiation poisoning. From there, he pioneered advancements in prosthetics, computing, and precision engineering, all while maintaining the sort of polite smile typically found on people who are either saints or have just swallowed a small battery.

Despite juggling several existential responsibilities, a city’s worth of paperwork, and an arm that violates at least three international codes of conduct, Big Arm remains cheerful, dignified, and somehow always exactly where he’s needed. No one knows how he sleeps. Some believe he doesn’t.

And yes, he does shake hands with the big one.

Electi Ability: Nuclear Fission

Big Arm’s body is constantly generating energy by nuclear fission. The early discovery of the ability in his childhood, and Gerald being one of the first Electi ever discovered, sparked a scientefic revoluition within his community that set his path towards nuclear physics. Gerald was one of the first memebers of the scientific groups that became the Vitric, and while he couldn’t save his right arm from radiation poisoning, his research and the effort of his fellow scientist saved his life by creating his namesake Big Arm.

The Big Arm MK.VI

Big Arm’s mechanical arm is a large, titanium plated nuclear generator designed to contain his Electi ability and prevent it from poisoning his body. It’s equipped with a cutting-edge super computer and a universal power cord meant to seamlessly power any machine using the built up power in the energy cells.

The “Big Arm” is split into 4 parts:

The shoulder is the main rotor, radiation nullifiers, and cooling racks. This is the most vital part of the arm that keeps Gerald safe from his own ability, but without anywhere to store the energy it wouldn’t hold on for too long.

The bicep is the reactor, where the fission energy generated by the body is stored and processed into a reusable power cell. The interface shows him everything he needs to know about the status of his energy production, and it has the power cord is used to connect to other machines. He’s a little paranoid when it comes to checking the status of the reactor, reasonably so. Nobody wants a Chornobyl on their arm.

The forearm is a small, mainly personal computer. It’s used to keep data from the reactor and Gerald’s personal files. It’s also where he can interact with the software of the Big Arm, and adjust it to his needs.

The Hand is the most versatile, being able to be swapped out for plenty of other hands. The one he uses the most is the one based on his favorite Gravity Cannon, to move stuff easily and defend himself if need be.

Though, the professor never talks full length about the complete capabilities of his Big Arm.

Relationships

lenore

His adoptive daughter who recently enrolled in E.R.A. While he's hesitant about the arrangement, he's hopeful the experience would help her develop further from her sheltered upbringing.

goldman

Goldman used to be a junior researcher in his team a couple of years ago back in the Vitric, but has left due to circumstance neither of them likes to discuss. Big Arm still feels responsible for what happens, and hopes to make up for it.

ernst

He considers Dr. Ernst to be a brilliant scientest but a dangerous one as well. He was directly involved with getting Ernst banned from the Vitric. He doesn't take pride in that, but is firm about the decision being done in the interest of everyone involved. It's awkward to meet him again under these circumstances now.
