Sex/Gender: Nonbinary
Preferred pronouns: She/He
Race: [Therian] RAT
Nationality/Origin: Canada
Height: 5’6 or 170 cm
Electi ability: Lost and Found
Ability description: Marty has the ability to locate small miscellaneous items. The item has to be relatively small and generally common. If she knows the item exists she can focus on it and will be granted with the general direction of the item which she can follow to eventually reach it.
Visual description: A Skinny humanoid rat with a long pink tail and brown and off-white colored fur. Can usually be spotted walking around wearing natural colors, but her usual fit includes a newsboy style hat and overalls with enough pockets to carry whatever as much stuff without needing a bag.
Background: Raised by two loving mums in central Canada, Marty lived in relative peacefulness. Her Electi revealed itself quite early; Other than being deemed harmless, this sparked in her young mind the dream of being a real life detective, which with the help of her mums led to quite the themed halloween streak.
As he grew up, he became involved with his local school’s clubs, from which the newspaper became his main subject of interest, combining his love for research and investigation with newfound passion of sharing his findings with anyone who might listen.
She is quite idyllic and thus tries her best to keep her journalistic integrity and to avoid lying, however bad impulse control occasionally leads her to make bad bets and commit the occasional trespassing. If you asked Marty she would say that she felt compelled to follow her Electi, but whether it is a side effect of her ability or the curiosity that one day might kill the rat still needs to be researched.
Eventually, one of his mums, a neurologist, got offered a job in the US, which caused the family to relocate. She also is the one that recommended Marty to go to the academy, pitching it as a good place to practice his journalistic skills, which was good enough to convince him.
Interview Transcript:
INT: Alright, please state your full name and age.
MK: Don’t you have that already?
INT: Yes, but it’s still a part of the interview we need to go through anyway
MK: Right. It’s Marty Kesso, I am 21 years old. What’s your name?
INT: Em.. You can call me John if you must. Would you please describe your Electi ability?
MK: Okay, so like if you’re ever missing anything small-ish you could just tell me, and I could point you in the right direction to find it. Say John, are you an Electi?
INT: Please stay on topic. If you can, please demonstrate your powers.
MK: Are you missing anything?
INT: (The interviewer pats their pockets, first pants but eventually they reach their breast pocket) Oh! My other pen isn’t here, I was sure it was on me, it’s just like this one (they hold up the pen they were jotting down the answers with) but red. Can you locate it?
MK: Gimme a sec, (She closes her eyes, brows furrowed in deep focus. After about 15 seconds her eyes open, and she points in the direction to the left from the door of the room) Over there!
INT: I am trying to remember what is in that direction…
MK: (He starts to move his hand in the direction of the door; the more he moves the more he rises from his chair, eventually his hand passes the direction of the door continues moving farther away) It’s on the move! OH! OH! Maybe someone stole it?! Do you want me to go find out?
INT: Wait, no, I just remembered I lent it to a coworker. mystery solved. I will just ask for it back later.
MK: Oh, Okay..
INT: You can sit back now.
MK: Right. (After another moment passes, she does.)
INT: Now, when did you first discover your ability? How has it affected your life?
MK: When I was young my mums just thought I was perceptive and that I could remember where I saw things so they didn’t really clock anything weird for a while, and I personally accepted it as a normal thing.
And then one day at school, one of the kids mentioned missing something, and I told her where it was, and she was really surprised. She was sure I couldn’t have known that, so she hid things from her pencil case and asked me to find them, and I did! Then, a bunch more kids got involved, and we spent a few of our breaks playing with it. you know it doesn’t take much to entertain kids. it was like they all were testing me. I think they thought I was some sort of psychic cause they kept asking me what color they were thinking of?
Anyway, a teacher noticed our game and called my mums to tell them about it, and the rest is history.
INT: (They finish jotting down the info before looking through their paper.) You mentioned your mums. I have one of them on file over here, Sophia Kesser? It says she’s the reason you’re here. would you mind telling me about her?
MK: Sure! My mum is a neurologist, we moved from Canada to the States because of her job.
INT: Must have been a great position if her entire family relocated for it?
MK: Yeah probably, I wish she would tell me but whenever I ask she says she can’t tell and that she signed an NDA, which I… begrudgingly respect. Whatever it is you don’t keep anything this secret if it’s not big and important… one day I will find out what it is exactly…
INT: Okay.. But how did she lead you here then?
MK: Well, she told me it would be a good idea. A place with fellow electi, she framed it as a good opportunity, she said (Marty puts on a voice that sounds regal) “Well Marty if you’re serious about being a journalist this will be a great place for you to practice a variety of stuff, besides you should be thinking about the reputation of electi if you wanna get a job like that” but honestly I think she just wants me to socialize more.
INT: Alright, so you’re interested in journalism. You are well aware that matters pertaining to the academy must stay under wraps, right?
MK:
INT:
MK: …There are still ways for me to put my activity here on a resume without being too specific.
INT: Right, and we take our secrecy very seriously, I just hope you understand it, I am sure nobody wants any trouble.
MK: You have my word, and I mean it. My mamas raised me well.
INT: Good. with that, I think we are done. do you have anything more to add?
MK: So you’re not an electi are you, John?
INT: Please leave. there will be someone who will point you in the right direction if you head where you came from.
MK: (She stands up and opens the door. She is about to head into one direction, hesitates, and turns instead to the direction where she was pointing earlier) Excuse me sir! I believe you have something that isn’t yours!
